Answer by FleetTech
Go to your local parts store Advanced auto parts or Auto zone in my area. They have Haynes repair manuals for vehicles. Get one for the year Jeep you are wanting to learn about. ALso look around the manual section and see if they have a book or books on engines and rebuilding engines and get those. Haynes has several How To manuals that are very good .

Question by Riley a: Jeep Commander Srt-8 can it be done?
My question is can u take a srt-8 engine out of a Grand Cherokee and put it into a Jeep Commander? What im trying to do is make a commander srt-8. I love the commander but I want to add a little something to it, like the srt-8 engine and srt rims and so on. I like both suvs but I really like the commander a hole lot more and I wouldnt mind puting the money into it to have all the srt-8 features. And does anyone think that this might look good or be a big waste of money? thanks

You couldn’t just change the engine, you’d also have to change the transmission, suspension, etc. Unless you got lucky and found a donor Grand Cherokee SRT-8 that got rolled or something, this would be a VERY expensive project. Even with the donor car, it would still be tens of thousands (a rolled SRT 8 will still not be cheap even if you find one).
The other problem would be that the Commander is more top heavy than the GC, so it would never handle as well, perhaps not even well enough to take advantage of all that power.
Better just to put some custom rims/tires or whatever on your commander to dress it up a bit, but don’t try to do the whole SRT8 conversion unless you have a lot of throw away money lying around.
Good luck

yeah its compeltely fine, there are so many different combinations of what you can do with your top. sometimes i took out the windows and the back windows and just left the top off or i took the top down and took of the doors too. As long as the top is up it wont get wet unless it’s really windy, anyways, it rained on my jeep so many times when the top was off it was fine, thats why they have the drain on the passenger side floor, just take out the stereo if its raining and you’re leaving the car out.

Unplug the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) at the output area of the transfer case. It will be a round sensor installed in the drivers side of the case towards the rear. See what the speedometer does when you do. If it stays at 20 then your gauge is bad in the instrument cluster or you have a wiring problem. If it drops off then I would change the sensor. If you buy one, plug it in before installing it and see what your speedometer does again. You can return it if you don’t need it and it is clean and in original package. The sensor is basically a small generator that provides a small voltage to the gauge, as you speed up it increases voltage. For some reason your gauge is seeing a small voltage, internal short is my guess because the vehicle isn’t moving to generate anything.

Question by BMS: Discount parts for Jeep wrangler?
1995 Jeep Wrangler.
I’m looking to spice up my exterior looks. I want to get an aftermarket front bumper and rock sliders for the side but I’m workin on a budget. I’d like to start with the rock sliders but every pair I find is like 0 plus shipping or maybe 0 plus shipping on ebay. Just wondering if anyone knows of some great sites or places to get stuff like this cheaper (not craigs list, i already check there)

Quality parts cost money, these companies spend huge amounts on testing and fit, if you bought a welder and some steel to make your own you will see what I mean. Try to find a jeep club in your town and see if they got any used parts, people love to upgrade and sell off there old stuff.

Question by jp: need the proper name and where can i buy it 89 jeep yj roll bar adjuster short piece bolts to main bar? thanks

Answer by tirod
I believe you are describing what is commonly called a sway bar link. Most auto parts stores have them in stock or can get them.
The aftermarket offers quick disconnect versions for superior trail handling off road. Just about any Jeep Wrangler catalog or web site has them. “Wrangler sway bar link” in the search engine of your choice should bring up a few thousand web pages. Which is best for you can be researched in any of a half dozen Wrangler forums.
